Help us make urgent social issues visible now.

Stichting URGENT is an Amsterdam-based non-profit supporting activists, human rights defenders, and artists whose voices are silenced elsewhere. Through programmes like Shelter City, ICORN, The Dissident, World Talks, and DRAW ME SAFE, we offer shelter, platforms, and networks to people who put everything on the line for freedom of speech and human rights.

None of this happens without volunteers. We're looking for people who want to put their time and skills toward something that matters.

Where You Can Help

Event & Programme Support Help organise public talks, festivals, and discussion events like The Dissident and the Human Rights Festival — from logistics on the day to welcoming guests and speakers.

Communications & Social Media Tell our stories. We're looking for people who can write, design, or manage content to help amplify the voices of the activists and artists we support.

Research & Advocacy Support our advocacy work with research on human rights issues, country contexts, and policy — helping us make stronger cases for the people we work with.

Multimedia & Creative Projects Contribute to productions like World Talks (our HRD interview database), photo exhibitions, and podcasts. Filmmakers, editors, photographers, and podcast producers welcome.

Hosting & Welcoming Help make relocated activists and artists feel at home in Amsterdam through the Shelter City programme — practical support, translation, or simply showing someone around the city.

General & Administrative Support Behind every event and campaign is a lot of coordination. If you're organised and reliable, we can always use a hand.

Who We're Looking For

You don't need a background in human rights work — you need commitment, discretion, and a genuine interest in supporting people whose freedom of expression is under threat. Fluency in English is essential; Dutch and other languages are a strong plus.
